Before I found Renaissance
Furniture, I had a chair reupholstered and the wood on the arms and legs
refinished. The shop that did the original work did a wonderful job with the
upholstery, but the wood was a disaster; the finish was flaking off just days after
I brought it home. Enter Renaissance
Furniture.
Boris Levitt knows both how to
refinish wood AND reupholster furniture (uncommon in this industry). I was
afraid that I was going to have my chair at least partly reupholstered in order
to correct the wood refinishing. Mr.
Levitt was professional, knowledgeable and frank about the process. When making
an estimate, he said he would try his best to refinish the wood without
staining the fabric, but it was a very real possibility the stain would get on
the fabric. If that happened, he said he’d call me and we would discuss the
additional cost.
Much to my pleasure, Mr. Levitt was
able to refinish the wood with NO damage or staining the fabric. The wood is
now silky smooth and lovely!
I found the time frame to complete
the project and the cost very reasonable. In addition, it was very easy to
communicate with Mr. Levitt both via e-mail and the phone.
I’m now saving up to have another
chair refinished and reupholstered at Renaissance Furniture.

I want everyone to know about the
fantastic work done by Boris Levitt at Renaissance Furniture Restoration on
Ocean Avenue in San Francisco.
I
inherited several pieces of wood furniture built in 1920’s. Because they were
in constant use by family, including young children, there was true destruction
of veneers, joints, and upholstery. Boris took on the job fearlessly. He
understands how furniture is crafted and was able to bring the frames back to
their original integrity. He understands wood and was able to reveal true
beauty of the grains. Importantly, Boris has terrific taste and judgment. He is
able to work with clients to choose upholstery that is beautiful and
functional. Boris and his colleagues do whatever it takes to restore a piece to
original status – including caning.
Restoring
my furniture preserved the family events witnessed by those chests and drawers.
For example, the Finn-Juhl Bwana chair that my husband sat in as a toddler in
the 1960’s is now used by our children when they read their favorite books.
Boris Levitt is a true artist and a craftsman. He is fast. His prices are fair.

I can't begin to tell you how happy we are with the furniture you refinished for us. As you know, it belonged to my late grandmother and she would be equally excited if she could see it now.

I would like to take the time to thank Mr. Levitt, owner of
Renaissance Furniture Restoration, for a fine job he did for me restoring my 19th
Century sofa. I brought him a wreck, and took home a piece of furniture that
belongs in a museum. I would never believe it could be made solid enough to
support anyone’s weight ever again. I enjoy showing everyone the place where he
had to undo and refit 17 pieces of carving in the space of a few square inches.
Amazing work! Even the very ordinary arm chair and footstool he repaired and

Over the past few years Boris Levitt of Renaissance
Furniture Restoration has restored several pieces of furniture for me: a small
table that had sat outdoors for years and now looks like new, a piano bench
with an extremely cracked old finish, a Victorian rocker that needed both refinishing
and reupholstering, and a large dining table, which involved matching the color
of old and new woods.

Boris did amazing work on restoring three pieces of vintage
furniture. He did an impeccable job, even finishing the work more than a week
ahead of time simply because I asked if it was a possibility. His prices are fair;
he gives an estimate based on email pictures, and then comes out to confirm
when he picks up the pieces. Great work, nice man, would definitely use him
again.

The chairs I brought to Boris I purchased at Ross and the
cushions were this awful, sickly color green. Boris not only did a fantastic
job reupholstering them but he also charged less than the other shops I called
for quotes.
I later saw these chairs going for several hundred dollars each at Macys. Mine
look ten times better and exactly as I wanted them - at a fraction of the
price! I definitely recommend Boris!
